What can seniors do during this lockdown to get stronger and happier?
Being sedentary during this lockdown will decrease your strength, stamina and increase your stress
When we set health goals we don’t often ask ourselves the question; “What will happen if I don’t achieve my goal?”. It is an important question to consider to help you to get motivated to take action.
During a recent consultation a potential client was telling us about wanting to improve her balance and strength to reduce her risk of falling. When I asked the question “what will happen if you don’t improve your balance and strength?” she paused and said “my balance will worsen, my strength will decline and I increase my chances of having a fall and end up in the hospital”. The importance of starting a regular exercise program became paramount when she realized the implications of staying sedentary.
The risk of inactivity is staggering for seniors. The body and brain starts to slowly decline.
- Increased risk of heart disease
- Reduced mobility
- Increased bouts of memory lapses
- Increased fall risk
- Higher chance of depression
- Weight gain
- Increased joint pain
- Risk of development of type 2 Diabetes
Often the cumulative effects of a sedentary lifestyle for seniors results in a loss of independence with a move to an assisted living facility.
Grab a notebook and write down your fitness goal (or the goal of a senior in your life). Now write down what will happen if you don’t achieve your goal.
We are seniors fitness experts and we are ready to make achieving your health goals a reality.
