Brain Boosters
Good Afternoon,
I recently attended a fitness conference in Toronto called Can Fit Pro. One of the lectures that I attended with a professor, Terry Eckmann, called Brain Boosters. She gave lots of great practical information about ways to keep our brains healthy and active as we age.
I imagine that for many of you understand the importance of staying active, doing cardiovascular activity and starting your day with a healthy breakfast but did you know that:
- Doing cross lateral movement (i.e. touching your elbow to your opposite knee) is good to keep the left and right sides of your brain balanced
- There is something called Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor that helps to clean out the pathways of your brain--works when you sleep and do aerobic exercise
- Exercise speeds up oxygen and glucose transport to the brain
- Positive thoughts produce endorphins in the brain
So the best way to keep your brain healthy is to keep active, stay positive and eat well.
Good Luck
